This hat is designed for the knitter who wants to learn the Fair Isle technique of stranded knitting. I designed it to use in my beginning Fair Isle Knitting classes.

While the pattern is for a beginning stranded project, it does require that the knitter possesses advanced beginner to intermediate knitting skills. There are links provided to videos of some of the skills used (Latvian Braid, 2-color cast-on and catching floats), charts for patterns and some written instruction.

It is one size, to fit a head circumference of approximately 20 to 22 inches. It can be made with smaller or larger yarn and needles for a different size; gauge would vary according to the yarn and needle size.

Any worsted weight yarn will work for the pattern . A self-striping yarn such as Noro is a lovely choice for an interesting “faux isle” look. It only takes about 100 yards of each color to make the hat in the size given, so you can get 2 hats out of 2 skeins of yarn as a rule.

There are no long floats to deal with, although the knitter can certainly catch floats if they wish.

You are free to do anything you want with the hat you make - wear it, sell it, gift it or donate it. I ask only that you do not reproduce and/or sell the pattern itself.

I am available through the Ravelry PM system to answer any questions.
