I’ve been craving an any-weight all-over-lace shawl in my collection for a long. time. I recently discovered Canadian dyer Julie Asselin’s Journey base, a delicious blend of 80% Ramboulliet and 20% Targhee, available in both Sport and Worsted weights. I set out to design a shawl that could use either of these weights. Something that shows off the beautiful yarn as well as the simple but intricate-looking details, a piece that’s super wearable but can be dressed up or down. Journey is next-to-skin soft, has beautiful stitch definition, and comes in an incredible array of gorgeous colorways.

Classic Romance is an asymmetrical triangle shawl worked from the corner out, increasing along one side to create the triangular shape. The all-over lace pattern wears diagonally, creating even more visual intrigue.

This pattern is written and charted. You may notice I’ve tried something new — the special stitches are color-coded on the chart, making it easier to work from at a glance.

I chose to work with a non-superwash yarn with a really round body and great stitch definition. For results that look most similar to the samples, please choose a similar base. Any yarn will work just fine,
but a smooth non-superwash yarn in a solid or tonal colorway will show off your work the most!

Gauge is not at all critical and this pattern can be made with ANY weight yarn!
