This Clematis is a crocheted replica of “William Kennett”

I have used a combination of DMC Petra and Perle in both No.5 and No.8. Perle and Petra are the same but Petra comes in bigger balls making it more economical. The colour range, however, is a lot more limited.

The first part of the pattern is not specific instructions but guidelines for planning and creating any size frame and the stem system to fit it.

The leaves, flowers, buds and fluffy heads are conventional patterns with plenty of pictures to help explain some of the more difficult bits.

The Clematis uses a few different techniques in its creation. These include Thread Painting, short row crochet and loop stitch.
While making your clematis, please remember - Size Matters! You can make your frame as big or as small as you wish. However, the bigger you make it, the more stems you have to make and the more leaves you have to make - you get the idea.

Materials
Frame: Bamboo and Jute twine, pins and some strong clear glue.

Stems: DMC Petra No.5 in 5895 and a small amount of Petra/Perle No.5 in 5384. As such a small amount of 5384 (about 2m) is used, this can be replaced with 5985 if you would prefer.

Leaves: DMC Petra No.5 in 5700. 1 ball makes around 80 leaves so you may need to count your leaf stems to work out how many you need.

Seed Heads (2), Closed Buds (2 in each size), Opening Buds (2) and Flowers (1 in each size): DMC Perle No. 5 (814 - 1 ball) and (3823 - 2 balls).
DMC Perle No. 8 in colours (A-208 - 2 balls), (B-209 - 2 balls), (C-210 - 3 balls), (D-211 - 4 balls), (E-B5200 - 2 balls) and (G-594 - 2 balls).

Also: Florists wire. I used green lacquered 28g x 12inch (0.38mm x 310mm)

Equipment: 4.00mm hook, 3.00mm hook, 2.00mm hook, 1.50mm hook and a crewel needle.
