Just like the line that forms the boundary between the land and the oceans and lakes, this light drapey cowl is smooth with a curving waves pattern reminiscent of the outline of the coast. Featuring simple repeats of soft lace intersected withStockinette stitch, it is a relaxing, but intriguing cowl to knit.

Pattern Notes:
Cowl is worked flat, beginning with a provisional cast-on. The cast-on edge is then grafted to the bind-off edge using your preferred grafting method to form the cowl loop. Alternatively, the cowl can be worked flat using a cast-on method such as long-tail, and then seam the cast on edge with the bound off edge to form the cowl loop. Necessary skills include knit and purl, working increases (yo) and decreases (p2tog, k2tog, p2tog tbl, ssk). Instructions are provided in written and charted formats. Please read through the entire pattern to familiarize yourself with its construction before starting to knit. Modification note: work additional or fewer repeats of waves motif if needed to accommodate any yardage difference, or to adjust the circumference of the cowl.

Materials:
Yarn: 1 skein of Sierra Rose Alpacas Fingering Weight yarn, colorway Misti (80% superfine suri alpaca, 20% silk; 400 yards/366 meters per 119 gram/4.2 oz skein) used for sample. Or approximately 250 yards/229 meters of a smooth, multi-plied fingering weight yarn.

Needles: US size 3/3.25 mm needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. 8” straight or 16” circulars recommended for flat knitting.
Gauge: 24 sts/32 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch on US 3/3.25 mm needles. Note: gauge swatches should be blocked for most accurate measurements.

Notions: yarn needle, stitch markers (optional), crochet hook and scrap yarn (for provisional cast-on), blocking supplies

Finished cowl size:
