The traditional stretchy-rib hat is transformed in this design by the addition of just 4 rounds of non-traditional cables. The heavier aran weight yarn and the three sizes make it easy to quickly knit up a batch of hats for the whole family. Great for gift knits too!

The pattern is approachable for knitters with some experience knitting hats in the round and working cables. The hat is knit from the brim up. Directions are given in written form, with the crown decreases also given in an optional charted form if you prefer using charts. The pattern is 2 pages long and has been fully test knit and professionally tech edited to be clear and free of errors.

Sizes:
S (M, L) to fit Child (Adult S/M, Adult L/XL) with head circumferences of approximately 19 (21, 23) in/ 48 (53.5, 58.5) cm. Designed to be worn with approximately 4 to 5 in/ 10 to 12.5 cm of stretch in the rib, but the fit is very flexible since the stitch pattern is so stretchy. Shown in size M (in green ) worn with 4 in/ 10 cm negative ease and in size S (in yellow). Most women and school age kids will wear a size M.

Finished Measurements:
Circumference when un-stretched: Approximately 14 1/2 (16 1/2, 18 1/2) in/ 37 (42, 47) cm.
Height: 7 1/2 (8 1/4, 9) in/ 19 (21, 23) cm.

Gauge:
Gauge over stockinette knit flat: 17 st and 24 rows/ 4in/ 10 cm.
Gauge over cable pattern in round: Approximately 24 sts and 26 rnds/ 4 in/ 10 cm - this can be difficult to measure, so choose your needle size based on your stockinette swatch.
