The Coho Beanie is meant to be worn snug to the head. Knitted in the round with a central colourwork section, Coho is both easy to memorise and easy to adapt to suit a higher-crowned head.

Coho is a species of salmon that changes colour as it goes from its spawning ground into freshwater, shifting from silver and blues to greens and reds.

If you make this hat please do upload your WIP and FO on Ravelry. It would be great to see it on Instagram too - #CohoBeanie #FayDHDesigns @faydhdesigns

Sizes: To be worn with approximately 6cm negative ease.
Adult L/XL for 60.5cm/23.75” head circumference (54.5cm/21.5” after blocking)
Adult M/L for 57cm/22.5” head circumference (51cm/20” after blocking).
Adult S for 53.5cm/21” head circumference (47.5cm/18.75” after blocking).
Adult XS/Child for 50cm/19.75” head circumference (44cm/17.25” after blocking).
Toddler for 46.5cm/18.25” head circumference (40.5cm/16” after blocking).

Needles: 3mm needles for rib and crown. I used a 60cm-long circular needle cable for all of the hats apart from the toddler size, which I knitted with 25cm circular needles, and swapped to double-pointed needles (DPNs) for all crown decreases.
3.5mm needles for stranded colourwork.

Gauge: unblocked 12 sts and 13.5 rounds over 5cm. Blocked 11.5 sts and 14 rounds over 5cm.

Yarn: John Arbon Textiles Yarnadelic, a sportweight wool. This is a beautiful Corriedale wool (non-Superwash) spun in Devon, England. It comes in 25g mini skeins 83m/91yds (also available in 100g skeins).

Yarn substitutes: Something with the same or very similar meterage. It can be a different blend but be aware that meterage requirements will change if you substitute yarns. Ideally, you want something that is soft and squishy that will create a warm fabric but is ever so slightly toothy to help the colourwork bind together.
