Colman Diamond Sweater

The Colman Diamond Sweater is worked flat for the body and sleeves, with the ribbing hems done in the round. Knitting flat is ideal for intarsia such as in this pattern. First, you cast on for the back neck and knit top-down. Then you pick up stitches for the front, shaping the right and left shoulders for either a crew neck or v-neck option. These pieces join to make the front body which you continue flat top-down. The top-down construction is to allow you to try on the sweater as you go, so you can achieve exactly the fit you want! The sleeves are picked up and knit flat. Then the front/back and sleeves are seamed together. Finally, you pick up stitches in the round for the collar, body hem, and sleeve hems, knit in 1x1 ribbing and bind off in the round.
The best part about the Colman Diamond Sweater is the shoulders: the shoulder diamonds are elongated so that you can have both the perfect diamond and the correct-fitting yoke. I did a lot of math to make sure the design worked right! Even if you have a different sweater shaping in mind, I recommend using this pattern and simply adjusting the plain MC stitches beyond the motif.
Size 1 = a 26” bust (with 8” positive ease), and each size is for a 2” bust increase, all the way size 21 = a 66” bust. To make the pattern easy to read, I have made TWO documents: one document for sizes 1-9, and one document for sizes 11-21. The sizing numbers are written as such: (01, 02, 03, 04, 05), 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, {11, 12, 13, 14, 15} ((16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21)).
