This simple but adorable colour block hat for babies and kids will fly off your needles, which makes it the perfect last minute gift or if you are in need of a quick replacement hat!

I used Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk DK because it ticks a lot of “knits for kids” boxes for me – supersoft and cosy, natural fibres, and, perhaps most importantly, machine washable. You could, of course, substitute your own favourite DK yarn, but something that will give good stitch definition will make your finished product look best.

This hat will definitely see a lot of wear. Its classic style is neither too fussy or too plain. The ribbing allows for plenty of growth, and even kids should be able to wear their hat for a couple of years, (if you can keep track of it for that long!)

Have fun with the contrasting colours and with the yarn colour of your pom pom. I used a light grey and neon brights because it felt very modern and playful. The yardage requirements are very low, so you may even be able to use up some of your stash!
