Life would be pretty boring if everything came easily. It’s those unexpected ripples and challenges in our lives that we truly remember in the end. You will feel the same way about this soothing garter stitch shawl with fun short row ripples to break up the monotony and show off your contrast color when you are finished.

This asymmetrical triangular shawl construction is based on MartinaBehm’s Rockin’ Rows and Thousand Tulips designs which grow from one side and then use a unique decrease recipe to form the other side.

This design lets you practice your short rows to accentuate a long gradient contrast color with enough rest between sections to put this in the knit-flix pile.

Once you feel the rhythm of the simple short row sections you will find it addictive and will love watching your colors refracted in the middle and shooting out in waves as your gradient slowly changes color and morphs through the shawl.

Most of the testers choose a long gradient for their contrast color although some had fun with solid colors and mini skeins for their contrast so check out their FOs as you plan your colors.

Please keep in mind - this pattern was designed to make the most out of each skein of yarn. Gauge inconsistencies, tangle issues or a light skein may lead to a catastrophic yarn chicken loss. If possible have an extra skein and make SURE you have a full 440yards of each color.

KaliGW actually made two shawls with the same colors reversed so if you’re considering using your gradient for the Main color check out her project here.
