Color Serenade
Color Serenade is a triangular-shaped shawl that is worked flat from the upper right tip towards the left edge. Perpendicular stripes and bold colors make this pattern interesting and fun to create! You can switch it up by varying colors, stripe segments, and solid blocks in an infinite combination of designs.
Make your own beautiful hand knit shawl using my pattern which will give you easy to follow, step by step directions. To use this pattern you will have to know how to do basic knit and purl stitches, and understand a few basic terms such as “knit front, back, and front of stitch” (kfbf). You can always message me if you have any questions, or just find simple youtube videos that show you how to do the technique. You will also have to know how to bind off, but the suggested directions are provided.
Using this pattern and the materials required, you can make this exact shawl or many different varieties using other yarns or needles.
This pattern requires 3 skeins (if you want to use 3 colors) or yarn each skein approximately 400-500 yds. I used fingering weight or sock yarn. You can use many different types of yarn, but you may have to adjust your needle size to get a comparable gauge.
Materials:
Needles: 32-inch US 6 (4.00 mm) circular needles
US 8 (5.00 mm) double pointed or circular needles for the I-cord bind-off
Notions: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge: 12 sts and 15 rows = 2” x 2” (5 cm x 5 cm) in garter stitch sections on smaller needles, blocked.
Alternatively, you could knit this in sport weight or dk weight yarns. Choose a yarn that you like and do a test swatch or two to determine the gauge and drape that feels and looks the best to you, using the recommended needle size on the yarn label. Keep in mind that heavier weight yarns will make a larger shawl - and plan your yardage accordingly.
Yarn: 900-1000 yds fingering weight yarn total, approx. one 400 yd skein ea. of 3 different colors.
Finished Measurements: The wingspan measures approximately 84 inches long and the depth is about 28 inches at the widest point.
Sample Yarn: Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn (90% super wash Merino, 10% nylon; 100g/400M), one skein ea. of “Sorry Not Sorry”, (color A) “Oracle”, (color B) and “Typewriter” (color C)
