When I made this hat, a few friends were asking for my pattern, so I decided to write up my formula. There are many free copy-cat versions of the CC Beanie / Slouchy Beanie as its popularity has soared over the years --- still no signs of decline! It seems that both men, women, kids, young and old - all love this hat.

I wanted to make one that is warm, covers the ears comfortably and more importantly, one that even a beginner could knit up. I wanted the fit to be slightly loose and not as tight as a Beanie but not Slouchy either. This pattern would fit most adult sizes but can be adjusted for a larger or smaller size by simply casting on more or less (even # of) stitches.

The original version has Brioche stitches (and a folded brim using the provisional cast on) which is intimidating to some of us. So to make things easy, I came up with my own version minus the provisional cast on and the brioche stitches. The end result looks beautiful with my gradual tapered Purl Bands. One skein of any worsted weight yarn, any make, will do.

The recommended yarn/s is just a guideline as this hat looks best knitted up with a tweed or marled worsted weight yarn. This could also be a great stash diving project! So use up whatever worsted weight yarn you have on hand even if the ball band is lost or a bit of it has been used. If your first attempt does not fit you, there would be a ton of people waiting in line to relieve you of this hat. Adjust the size and fit to suit your comfort/needs. I find that as soon as I make one, it is taken right off my needles - a great gift that will be appreciated by almost all.

Post your lovely hat on your project pages in Ravelry so all of us can enjoy!
