Coloring Book Socks
Coloring Book socks are a cuff down sock with a shadow wrap heel and some basic colorwork. The pattern is written for magic loop but can be easily adapted for DPNs or short fixed circular needles. It’s written for four sizes (1, 2, 3, 4) with ball of foot circumference at (7”, 8”, 9”, 10”) / (18cm, 20cm, 23cm, 25.5cm)
There is an option for a plain stockinette sock and one that has a very easy to memorize texture pattern.
You’ll need at least three skeins of yarn and a 2.25 mm circular needle (or size needed to meet gauge). I knit a size 3.
Gauge:
Stockinette sock: 32 stitches X 45 rows =4” blocked
Textured sock: 31 stitches X 46 rows = 4” blocked
Yarn:
First sample (pink): Hue Loco Merino sock in Apricot (MC), Currant (CC1) and Unnamed Pink (CC2).
Second sample (blue textured): Theatre Kid Yarns Downstage Sock in Tikva (MC), Sewrella Yarn Nylon Sock in Out of Office (CC1) and Sewrella Yarn Nylon sock in Breckenridge (CC2). Note: I’m not 100% positive of the name of CC2 but it was in a seasonal tonals mini set
Stockinette yardage details: (175, 200, 224, 249) yards/ (44, 50, 56, 63)grams
CC1: (13, 14.5, 16.5, 18.5,)yards/(3.5, 4, 4.5, 5)grams
CC2:(56, 64, 72, 80)yards/(14, 16, 18, 20)grams
Textured yardage details: (149, 171, 192, 213) yards/ (38, 43, 48, 54)grams
CC1: (13, 14.5, 16.5, 18.5,)yards/(3.5, 4, 4.5, 5)grams
CC2:(50.5, 57.5, 64.5, 72.5)yards/(13, 15, 16.5, 18.5)grams
Another note: while this sock is intended for adult feet, some of my testers have had success with size 1 for children and varied the length accordingly. The numbers in the pattern and above account only for adult sizes so if you modify for a child, it will likely be a little less depending on your gauge.
