Concarneau Socks
Concarneau Socks
Cozy striped socks worked cuff down, with a little eyelet detail and a ribbed instep panel.
Concarneau Socks are a simple but satisfying knit for anyone who loves a good striped sock. They are worked from the cuff to the toe in one piece, using two colors in bold 8-round stripes that echo the classic Breton stripe. A band of eyelets on the leg and a ribbed panel over the instep add just enough texture to keep things interesting, without getting in the way of the stripes.
The socks begin with a 1x1 ribbed cuff and are worked in the round. A slip-stitch heel flap makes the heel sturdy and long-lasting, followed by a gusset that is picked up and decreased in the same stripe sequence. The foot is worked in the round again and finished with a rounded toe, grafted closed with Kitchener stitch.
The sample is knitted in West Wool Hex, a hand-dyed fingering weight merino/nylon yarn, in the colors Poodle and Mauvellous. A semi-solid yarn like Hex is perfect here, as it gives the stripes depth without distracting from the stitch pattern.
