Join us for our Learning Mystery Knit Along (MKAL) in my Ravelry Group! Purchase this Conchoidal MKAL pattern, say “hello” to the Ravelry group and you’re part of the gang. We officially cast-on on Friday, March 23rd at 9am PST.

The Story
Socks, sock socks! It’s a knitting trend that isn’t disappearing anytime soon. But making a pair that fits is key! And two at a time (2aat)? Even better!

MKAL PURPOSE
Unlike shawls and scarves, fit is pretty important when it comes to socks. This knit along focuses on knitting socks from the cuff down - IMO the best-fitting style of sock - worked two at a time (2aat). And what’s more? It focuses on how to make these socks fit you or your loved ones who you deem hand-knit-sock worthy.

MKAL SCHEDULE

  • Friday, March 23: Measuring YOUR gauge, doing some math and working our cuffs!
  • Friday, March 30: Revealing the stitch pattern and working the leg!
  • Friday, April 6: Working that heel flap and gusset, 2aat style!
  • Friday, April 13: Finishing up the toes and Kitchener Stitch!

MATERIALS - for the entire MKAL (will change from week to week)

  • House of A La Mode Fiber Goods House Fingering (2-ply fingering weight; 80% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon; 400 yds / 365 m per 3.5 oz / 100g), 1 skein: ‘Topaz’ OR!
  • 1 - 400 yd skein of sock yarn of your choice (I recommend a minimum nylon content of 10% to ensure sock longevity but this choice is up to you)
  • US 1.5 (2.5 mm) 40” / 100 cm circular needle (I do not recommend going shorter for the Magic Loop method for 2aat socks)
  • Locking/removable stitch marker (optional, 1)
  • Row counter (optional)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Kitchen/yarn scale
  • Scissors
  • Flexible measuring tape
  • Non-flexible ruler or tape measure (optional but recommended)
  • Calculator
  • Straight pins (or T-pins)

FINISHED SIZE AND GAUGE
YOUR SIZE, YOUR GAUGE!!! By the time you’re done you’re going to have a pair of socks made just for you (or whomever you’re making it for) so this will be a nonspecific sizes pattern for the purposes of this teaching MKAL. But don’t fret - I’m going to walk you through each step so you don’t get lost!
And yes - I know! Not all sock patterns are designed to work to YOUR gauge. Don’t you worry - I’ll be sure to provide tips on how to knit other sock designs to fit you!

NOTES

  • These socks are worked from the cuff-down and feature a slipped stitch gusset heel. The left and right socks are mirrors of one another.

  • This pattern is written for the Magic Loop technique. While alternative construction methods can absolutely be used, they won’t be covered in this MKAL.

  • Written and charted instructions are provided for the patterned portion of the socks. Written instructions with links to video or photo tutorials are provided where necessary.
