This scarf forms a set with the Cantilever shawl. A discount of A$5 applies when purchasing both patterns (no coupon code required).

Brioche and cables: briochables? briocables?

Worked in bulky (or heavier) weight yarn, this pattern works up quickly into a lovely, squishy, warm scarf.

I love the word ‘concordance’, meaning ‘ agreement or consistency’ and I think it suits this pattern perfectly. The columns of brioche look like cords, and the arrangement of cables reminds me of a structured, orderly kind of dance.

The pattern includes both written instructions and charts. Detailed descriptions and a photo tutorial of the more unusual stitches are also included.

Materials:
• Bulky weight yarn in two colours, approximately 220m (240yds) of MC and 200m (220yds) of CC.
• 5.5mm/US 9 circular needles with a 10cm/4” or longer cable.
• Two cable needles or locking stitch markers to hold one or two stitches.
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends.
• Crochet hook to make fringes (if desired).

Size of finished shawl:
Length 220cm/86.5” (not including fringe), width 12cm/4.75”, after blocking.

Gauge:
Obtaining gauge is not essential, as long as you are happy with the fabric you are getting. Different gauge will affect the size of the finished object and the amount of yarn used.

The gauge of the sample shawl was measured in terms of pattern repeats. One repeat consists of 27 stitches and 24 rows and measured 12cm x 18cm (4.75” x7”), after blocking.

In case of need, this and all my patterns are available through the Fiber Community Fund.

Stitch abbreviations and chart symbols are based on those developed by Nancy Marchant.
