The original Totally Tubular Hat pattern was written by Wendy Prager Goeckner, and given as a free pattern on Ravelry. Her pattern features a double-thick hat, made by knitting two complete hats that are joined at the brim. All gauge & needle information is from the original. My version is simply another way to knit Wendy Prager Goeckner’s pattern.

I knit hats for charity, and found the Totally Tubular Hat to be ideal as for making a very warm & snug hat. But I didn’t want to use a provisional cast on, so I rewrote how this pattern comes together.

In my version, you start at the top of one hat with a small cast on, and knit down until you’ve finished the rib. A turning row is added, then the second hat is knit from the brim up to the final decrease.

If you’d like to knit a doubled hat in a continuous method, then my version might work for you. Use any worsted to aran yarn, or hold multiple smaller yarns together to make a worsted strand.

Thank you, Wendy Prager Goeckner, for the generous gift of your Totally Tubular Hat! All credit goes to you, completely.

The tassel shown on top is from the pattern set, Tassels, by Sidsel Sangild. Her pattern are written for fine yarn, but I like to size them way up when making a generous-sized hat.
