9/10/20 - Pattern has been updated with a DK-weight option! To celebrate, the Cooperish Cowl will be 50% off - no code needed - through the end of Saturday, 9/12 (MST).

This set of chevron-patterned cowls is named for Cooper, the dyer’s charming lunkhead of a yellow lab. Cooper was bred to be a Seeing Eye dog, but sadly, he “lacked focus” to continue in his training. (Not to worry, he now enjoys life as a beloved family pet.)

Similarly, the ever-changing hues of these cowls -- worked in an easily memorized stitch pattern -- are perfect for those of us who don’t like to focus on any one color for too long. Choose from a subtly shifting gradient, a vibrant mix of colors, or graphic colorblocking — all in brilliantly dyed bases from Marianated Yarns.

This pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.

Recommended Yarns:
Marianated Yarns Scrumptious HT — 80% superwash merino / 10% cashmere / 10% nylon — 400 yds (366 m) per 100 g skein.

or

Marianated Yarns Jujubee DK Minis Set — 100% superwash merino — 300 yds (274 m) total per 120 g set. Each individual Jujubee is 50 yds (46 m) per 20 g.

Four different put-ups:

Grey-Pink Gradient Cowl (picture 1) — Two 6-Pack Marianette Gradient sets, in colorways Stormy Skies Ahead (neutral) and Princess Quail (contrast) — 240 yds (220 m) per set, approx. 480 yds (439 m) in total.

Multicolored Cowl (picture 2) — One Bundle of Ettes, a unique set of minis ranging from 2-10 g each — approx. 400 yds (366 m) in total.

Red-Pink-Brown Colorblocked Cowl (picture 3) — One Twisted Trio, a unique set of three individual colorways with 133 yds (122 m) each — approx. 400 yds (366 m) in total.

DK-Weight Cowl (picture 4) — One Jujubee DK Minis Set — approx. 300 yds (274 m). Shown in colorway Retail Therapy.

Sizing:
Gradient Cowl—23” (58 cm) high
Multicolored Cowl — 18” (46 cm) high
Color-blocked Cowl — 17” (43 cm) high.
DK Weight Cowl — 17.5” (44 cm) high.

All fingering-weight cowls are 24” (61 cm) around. DK-weight cowl is 21” (53 cm) around.

For a looser cowl, go up a needle size or cast on an additional repeat of 14 sts.

Gauge:
Fingering-weight: 28 sts and 28 rows to 4” (10 cm) in Main Body Pattern, knit in the round and blocked.

DK-weight: 25 sts and 27 rows to 4” (10 cm) in Main Body Pattern, knit in the round and blocked.

Needles:
US 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle, 16” (40 cm) or 24” (60 cm) length.

PLEASE NOTE: I knit all samples with a US 6 (4 mm) needle, but as I knit fairly tightly, I call for needles one size smaller. Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of pattern, and amount of yarn used. To meet these dimensions, be sure to use needle size that gives gauge.

Other Materials:
One removable stitch marker, yarn scale (helpful), tapestry needle.
