Copper Mountain is a design built directly into CustomFit, which means that each Copper Mountain pattern is written specifically to your choice of gauge and size.

(This means that your Copper Mountain pattern can be made for anyone you like, out of any yarn you like.)

Copper Mountain is home to one of the best mogul ski runs in the US, I’m told, and moguls leapt to mind as I was swatching this deceptively-simple cable pattern. The cables criss-cross near each other like glorious little snow mounds, and look absolutely brilliant in the warm, heathered colors of Berroco Ultra Alpaca.

Cables, heathered yarn, and a super-classic silhouette come together in this addition to CustomFit’s “straight-shaped” choices. Unisex and suitable for both adults and kids, Copper Mountain has a flattering V-neckline, long sleeves, and an average length. All edges are trimmed with 2×2 ribbing (2″/5 cm on the hem, 3½”/9 cm on the sleeves, with a 2”/5 cm button band).

Please swatch in the shadow cable stitch before you create your CustomFit pattern. You can find instructions for the cable here.

I used Berroco Ultra Alpaca in “Lobster Mix” for this sample, at a gauge of 24 stitches and 28 rows to 4’’ (10 cm) in the shadow cable. But CustomFit will create your pattern to the gauge you specify - and for that reason, it’s difficult to give any kind of yardage advice! To estimate how much yarn you’ll need, I strongly recommend the “Stashbot” app or pamphlet by Hannah Fettig.
