Cornish Coves is inspired by the beautiful coastline of Cornwall which I was able to visit in 2019. It is an intricate shawl with some slight 3-D effekts that mimic the twists and turns of the ragged seashore. It is fully reversible. You will need two contrasting yarns of the same weight: two solids, one solid or semi solid combined with a color gradient, or two color gradients that go well together as a pair but that are distinctive enough to make out the individual modules – all these combinations work well together.

The amount of yarn you need will of course depend on the tightness of your knitting and the weight of your yarn. You will need half as much of Yarn B than of Yarn A. The size will depend on the amount of modules you want to knit. Accordingly you can use any yarn weight and needles you like and knit either a large shawl or a small shawlette.

I prefer to knit a bit tighter with thinner needles and I used Dibadu Funnies Twisted Fifties “Jade bis Tannenwald” as Yarn A: 1125y/1120m and Dibadu Twisted Fifties “Piratengold” as Yarn B: 575y/525m for a shawl with 76“/193cm length and 27“/67cm depth. I knitted another version with 2x 615y/560m of Schoppel Lace Ball 100 “Rauchzeichen” as Yarn A and 2x 284y/260m of Schoppel Lace Ball 100 “Mittelland” as Yarn B using two strands at a time to achieve a longer color gradient for a shawl with 57”/145cm length and 21.5”/55cm depth.

The stunning Dibadu yarn that I used can be found here:

If you cannot find the color of your choice in the shop feel free to send an email to the yarn dyer, or check the website at a later point for more shop updates.

Cornish Coves is a modular knit but there is no seaming involved as you will join all the modules as you go. You will find graphics that explain the setup plus photo tutorials on all the necessary techniques for joining the modules. All instructions are written and charted. To save paper and ink I have created two individual pdf files. One with the charted and one with the written instructions.

Happy Knitting
