I was showing my granddaughter one of my favourite books for knitting inspiration - Barbara Walker’s ‘A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns’ and we happened upon a stitch called ‘Corona’ … and it was May 2020.

I’ve adapted the stitch pattern from rows into rounds and made a little cowl or ring scarf and now I’m offering this pattern to my fellow knitters in the hope that, in 2020 it might be therapeutic to stick sharp pointy sticks into something called ‘Corona’. Perhaps it’ll help us to reclaim the word ‘Corona’ - remembering that it is from the Latin for Crown and is also a beer from Mexico.

This is a written out (not charted) lace pattern of moderate difficulty - you will be working double yarn overs and in the subsequent round you make 5 stitches into that loop. You will also be moving your marker.

I used about 40grams of a 3ply yarn on a 3.5mm circular needle - 60cm long.
That’s 1.5oz of a light fingering yarn on a No: 4 circular needle - 24” long.
A thicker yarn with correspondingly thicker needles would simply make a longer, larger cowl.
