In Reykjavík Iceland houses are either made of timber or concrete. The timber houses are most often covered in corrugated metal and that’s also the most common material for roofs. This makes for a fun canvas for the creative people of Reykjavík and they paint their roofs and houses in bright, fun colors.

The pattern is simple but interesting, there is enough going on to keep a knitter awake! The part I love the most is the lifeline thumb - the thumb increases are all done in the palm and follow the lifeline. This makes a mitten that’s unusually comfortable to wear with a very movable thumb.

Material
Yarn: Léttlopi (Lopi Light) 50g/3.52oz skeins, 100m/110yards in two contrasting colors, A and B, a small amount of a third color, C, for the tips. Here shown in Grape Heather 9432 (A) and White 0051 (B). The third, tip, color is a lovely plant dyed green from my friend the botanist Guðrún Bjarnadóttir at Hespa (look her up and visit her dyeing studio just outside of Reykjavík if you are coming over).

Sizes: S (M) L

Needles: preferred needles 7US/4.5mm for knitting a small diameter in the round
