Jared Flood tries to knit a classic cabled scarf every winter. For the masculine design shown here, he decided to include a few subtle details for a slightly more contemporary take on traditional Aran patterning—a k2, p2 tubular cast-on and bind-off, a deep ribbed hem, and a slim I-cord edging. He also combined one strand each of gray and brown yarn to create a thick, but far from stiff, scarf with a tweedy look. To make the scarf distinctly your own, choose colors to match your wardrobe.
