This is the first item I got really good at crocheting and designed my own pattern for. The Original Cottontail - that’s where I got the name for my shop, my blog, etc.

My hair is not long enough to wear a bun right now, but I loved putting my hair up in a sock bun and popping one of these over it. I have made about 25 for myself in all different kinds of yarns and I keep them in a box with a Burberry scented piece of foam. Made my hair smell wonderful when I wore them!

These are so quick and easy to make, great for scrap yarn projects, and you can use virtually any kind of yarn and any size hook (I use an L with DN Serenity Chunky or Lion Brand Homespun).

You will also need a ponytail holder for each one - I have used both regular sized ponytail holders and the small ones, but the regular sized usually work better for my hair. If you are making these small, for a child, use the smaller ponytail holders.

Also, try to use a ponytail holder color that is similar to the color of the Cottontail you are making. I like to buy those 25 - 50 packs at the local drug store that have black, white, brown, and grey ones - usually one of those colors will work fine.
