I designed these blankets for knitting with Rowan Cotton Glace, which is a 100% cotton yarn I like to use for babies & children as it is non-itchy, has a wide colour palette and is hard wearing and washes well. If you choose to use a different yarn, remember that your tension may be different and consequently the size of your blanket.

The patterns are written as colour charts and written instructions. There are 6 one shade squares, each has a different pattern to reflect the theme of countryside, and 6 “picture” squares. The squares are knitted in strips then sewn together vertically. You can knit them separately but you will use more yarn and give yourself more work!

The pattern instructions are for three sizes: small 45cm x 60cm (18in x 24in), medium 60cm x 75cm (24in x 30in), large 75cm x 75cm (30in x 30in) plus edging. The yarn amounts are for the blankets using the shades as they appear in the photos. I usually back the small blanket with quilting, there are instructions for this in the pattern. The small size fits a buggy/moses basket, while the medium or large blankets are cot size but are also good for folding and using from newborn to child.

Materials: Because I use a lot of colour in my designs, you will need very small amounts of some shades.

Small blanket: 4x50g balls 725 Ecru; 1x50g 827 Chalk; 1x50g 814 Shoot; 1x50g 730 Oyster. Small amounts of: 724 Bubbles; 741 Poppy; 812 Ivy; 727 Black; 832 Persimmon; 845 Shell; 834 Whey; 726 Bleached; 828 Heather; 747 Candy Floss. The completed blanket weighs approx. 240g.

Medium cot blanket: 4 x 50g 725 Ecru; 3 x 50g 814 Shoot; 2 x 50g 827 Chalk; 1 x 50g 730 Oyster; 1 x 50g 727 Black; 1 x 50g 741 Poppy. Small amounts of: 724 Bubbles; 726 Bleached; 812 Ivy; 834 Whey; 845 Shell; 828 Heather; 747 Candy Floss; 832 Persimmon.
The completed blanket weighs approx. 400g.

Large cot blanket: 5 x 50g 725 Ecru; 3 x 50g 814 Shoot; 2 x 50g 827 Chalk; 1 x 50g 727 Black; 1 x 50g 741 Poppy; 1 x 50g 730 Oyster. Small amounts of: 724 Bubbles; 726 Bleached; 812 Ivy; 834 Whey; 845 Shell; 828 Heather; 747 Candy Floss; 832 Persimmon. The completed blanket weighs approx. 500g.

Note: since this pattern was written some of the shades have been discontinued but there are other shades available in this yarn.
