Everyone knows the classic winter colour palette - mirroring the surrounding landscape with its cloudy skies, dark nights, bare trees, the preferred colours for the cold season are also somewhat monochromatic. And while it may sound a tad gloomy, the winter wardrobe, in fact, allows me to fully focus on the accessories, directing all the creativity and playfulness towards the smaller scale projects in order to give a type of ‘edge’ to the otherwise pretty plain outfit.

Another thing, which I love about colour-rich winter accessories, is that it is an ideal way to use up all the leftover yarn, while still producing something unique and lively, a somewhat mosaic of all of the other favourite projects in one!

The pattern for this cowl was born precisely out of the necessity to brighten up dark winter days, reflect upon countless days knitting other garments and to produce something that is easy, quick to make but is, nonetheless, vivid and eye-catching, in order to take a stand against sometimes overpowering monochrome-like winter.

SIZE
The cowl is one size only.

MEASUREMENTS
This cowl will be approximately 24 cm (9.5 inches) tall and 52 cm (20 inches) in circumference.

MATERIALS
In this case, the main colour (MC) 60 g of Schachenmayr Regia 4-ply solids (100 g/421 m) and approximately 10 g of Noro Cashmere Flavor (50 g/450 m) held double were used, in order to create the melange-like effect. In the case of this particular cowl, the leftover yarn of different colours of pt2 by Per Tryving (50 g/165 m) were used. However, you are welcome to use any leftover yarn you have, as long as the thickness of the yarn corresponds to the thickness of the main colour.

GAUGE
27 stitches and 29 rows equals 10 cm (4 inch) in stockinette stitch after blocking. Perfectly matching the given gauge is not critically important for this project, however, changes may result in a different yardage requirement.

NEEDLES
The cowl is knitted with US 2 ½ - 3 mm and US 4-3,5 mm circular needles 40 cm/16-inches or 60 cm/24 inches long.

NOTIONS
6 stitch markers (one of different colour to denote the beginning of the round) are required as well as a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
My knitting style is very tight. Therefore, please make sure that the indicated gauge corresponds with your sample. Otherwise, I would recommend choosing smaller needles (1 or 1,5 number less) or, alternatively, thinner yarn.
Thank you so much and happy knitting!
