Garment Description

The Cowl Neck Poncho is created for versatility, comfort and ease of wear. Button as much or as little of the garment as you want, arrange the cowl neck in various styles and don’t forget the side vents for ease of movement and a more flattering drape. The garment is knit from the bottom up with decreases creating raglan-style shoulder shaping for a smooth silhouette.

The example pictured was knit in King Cole Baby Comfort DK - because adults deserve soft, flowing fabrics too. Especially ones that are machine washable!

Pattern Features

The two front pieces and back piece are worked separately for the first few inches but after the side vents are complete the pieces are all joined together on a long needle/circular needle and knit back and forth throughout.

The garter stitch edging and buttonbands are knit as part of the main garment making finishing a doddle.

The cowl neck is also incorporated into the main piece and is worked back and forth in simple garter stitch, shaped to flute out at the top so that it folds over nicely. This can be done either by increasing needle size or number of stitches over the last few inches. Instructions are given for both methods.

Stitches used are garter stitch, stocking stitch and, for the buttonholes and decreases, K2TOG/YO/SSK.
