I knitted Prudence and Primrose as prototypes for Cows on Tour, a campaign by farmers in South Wales to promote farming in the UK. Cows on Tour asked Ammonite Yarns if we could provide knitted cows to use with school children and as promotional items. We couldn’t make the quantity needed so we designed Prudence, our prototype and asked the knitting community to help. The pattern can be purchased on its own or go on to our website to buy the kit and a proportion of our profit will go to Cows on Tour to help with their aims.

The cow is roughly 12 inches high (plus legs) and I haven’t listed gauge information as most knitters will be slightly different. Make sure that the finished fabric isn’t too loose as you don’t want stuffing to peek out. The eyes are made as bobbles so that they can’t be pulled off and the ears and nose are picked up and knitted on for the same reason.

Some copies of the pattern may give instructions to knit the legs on a different size needle than the body -- ignore this.
For the nose, if knitting in DK then double the yarn, but if in aran keep it single.

The finished cow takes one skein each of Jacobs in Ecru and Dark Brown plus oddments of dark grey for the eyes and coral bfl for the nose. You’ll also need a bodkin for sewing up and stuffing,
