Is this cowl cozy? Yes! Chunky? Sure is! Cabled? You know it! And does it also come in a scarf version too? Omg stop it! Well, if that sounds like the sort of project you like, then look no further.

We’ve written this freebie up in two different thick yarn weights. 14ply/Chunky for that modest touch of something chunky, as well as 20ply/Super Bulky for if you love that oversized look of big, squishy goodness!

Whichever you choose, they are both easy peasy, quick to finish, and a great option if it’s your first time knitting cables.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab some big needles and let’s cast on!

MATERIALS

14ply / Chunky Version
Dimensions: approximately 20cm wide x 140cm long (cowl) or 180cm long (scarf)
Yarn: Any 14ply / Bulky weight yarn.
We used 5 balls of Chaska Muhu Chunky (100% Alpaca, 50m/50g) in colour N21. But due to the drape of this yarn, we would recommend 4 balls if you’d like your cowl to sit more snug against your neck.
Quantity: 200-250m (cowl), or 300m (scarf)
Needle: 7.00mm needle
Gauge: 12.5sts to 10cm in garter stitch
Materials: Yarn needle for sewing up, 4 stitch markers

20ply / Super Bulky Version
Dimensions: approximately 28cm wide x 150cm long (cowl) or 200cm long (scarf)
Yarn: Any 20ply / Super Bulky yarn.
We used Super Woolly from Woolly Yarn Co (100m/200g) in colour Ginja Ninja. We used 3 skeins for our scarf, but if you really like to wrap yourself up, we’d suggest adding a 4th skein.
Quantity: 200m (cowl), or 300-400m (scarf)
Needle: 12.00mm needle
Gauge: 8sts to 10cm in garter stitch
Materials: Yarn needle for sewing up, 4 large stitch markers
