Winters here in Canada can get awfully frigid. Keeping the kids warm during all that cold weather can sometimes be a challenge. We seem to have the biggest issue with hats. Fleece hats, so popular in children’s clothing stores, fill my girls’ hair with static. The wind blows through most regular knitted hats giving them “ice cream headaches” and my eldest daughter hates having her ears exposed to the elements.

This “Cozy Canuck Chullo” is the solution to all our winter woes. The ear flaps and long ties are quite stylish and the hat looks equally cute with the ties left open as it does with them tied snugly under the chin. The fair isle pattern is not only cute but makes the hat double thick and eliminates that biting wind. Knit in the round with only two colours per row, it is a simple, quick and fun knit.
