These patterns were born out of a desire for a better lace snood than the standard round crocheted one. These are knit in a rectangle and then gathered with elastic cord. The rectangle shape keeps hair behind ears better, and the knit lace allows for an infinite variation of patterns. Charted here are two of my favorites, but these snoods can be made easily with just about any knit lace pattern.

Size: The pattern is written for one size, but if you find the snood too large or too small it is very easy to adjust the pattern.

Materials: ~90 yards fingering or sock weight yarn for each snood; U.S. #6 straight or circular needles; fine elastic cord; small crochet hook

Gauge: Mallorn: one chart repeat (18 sts x 31 rows) is approx. 3.75” x 3.75”
Hyperspace: one chart repeat (16 sts x 25 rows) is approx. 5” x 3”

Techniques Used:

Single crochet

Stockinette Stitch
Working from a chart

These snoods are very easy to resize, or use with different lace patterns. At their base they are simply a rectangle of knit fabric that measures about 12” long by 10.5 “ wide. If that size is too big or too small, simply adjust the number of chart repeats or your gauge to get a different size rectangle. If you want to use a different lace pattern, simply work up a swatch and do a little simple math to figure out how many repeats you need to make the right size rectangle. When crocheting the elastic to the outer edge, I found it helpful to space the crochet sts out a bit by chaining two or three in between each. This kept the crochet border from bunching up as much when wearing the snood.
