From the Patternfish website:

“Our cozy Cowl is a super-easy, elegant little slip-on hood that is somewhere between a scarf and a hat,” says Van Stralen. “The clever twist in the joining gives it stay put power (this turns it effectively into a Moebius-- Ed.) Pull down the cowl for a great neck warmer, or pull it up for head gear that won’t flatten your hair!” A classic piece, offered in a simple knit/purl ridge pattern, and available in two weights-- sport and chunky. The chunky linen in particular gives a remarkable effect, and would be a great thing to pull over your head in a convertible in the summer when your maid is laundering all your Hermes scarves.

Louet Euroflax Chunky Weight has been discontinued. 300 yards bulky weight yarn can be substituted.

Louet Gems Sport Weight is still available. Uses (2) skeins (450 yards total).

Begins with crochet cast-on in waste yarn. Schematics show how to join live stitches of the flat piece to make cowl with a twist.
