I used to play with this while at my grandmother’s house when I was a child and I wanted to duplicate it for my niece. I used stashed yarn, a bulky-5, but this could be made with any hook/yarn combo as gauge is not important. I found the little bear toy first and worked around him for sizing.

I also wanted a flat bottom for this project. Looking at patterns other people have made, they didn’t have the accessories and shape that I wanted in my gift. What I remember most from the toy I played with years ago was that the baby doll had a mattress and blanket that I could tuck around her. The base was also plastic in that version… but I was willing to give that up in my design because I really didn’t feel like trying to find the proper plastic base and try to punch hole into it.

The base is worked as an oval - which made the stitch counting a little tedious. But there’s you-tube videos out there that help in the counting and placement of stitches for that.
