Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed (70% Wool; 30% Mohair; 100m / 109yds per 25g ball)

Needles and notions 
Gauge-size and below gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences. Waste yarn (for thumb placement). 
Stitch marker. Tapestry needle.
Gauge 
34 sts and 38 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork pattern using gauge-size needle. Gauge was achieved with 3mm / US 2½ needle.
Sizing 
Hand circumference above thumb: 19cm / 7½in 
Length of mitts from cuff to top: 16.5cm / 6½in 
Length of mittens from cuff to top: 23cm / 9¼in
Pattern notes 
The mittens (or mitts) are cast on, and a cuff worked in twisted rib. After increasing stitches and beginning to work from the colourwork chart, a placeholder of waste yarn is inserted into the fabric of the palm for the afterthought thumb. The chart is completed, then the mitts finished 
with an open rib, or a closed, grafted top for the mittens.
