Compared to my children, I actually don’t crochet a ton of stuff for my husband. I mean, sure, he gets the odd pair of slippers every now and again and more than enough hats. But I think I’ve made him less than 5 sweaters, ever. Compare that to my son and daughter….who literally get at least 5 new garments every season change. (Mostly because they never stop growing, ha!)

So when I received this super lovely Malabrigo Arroyo yarn, I fought the Gollum voice in my head that told me I should definitely make something for myself and instead used it to splurge on him. This yarn is wonderfully soft, great stitch definition and the best part? It’s superwash. Which, when it comes to my husband, is totally necessary because he WILL accidently toss it in the washing machine at some point and then wonder why it shrunk to a size 2T. Ask me how I know. Go on, ask me. Yes, he felted a sweater I poured my heart and soul into! But this one, thankfully, is safe. Because superwash merino wool can take an accidental spin without getting totally ruined. So it’s worth every cent for that alone.

As for the sweater itself, this is merely the grown up version of my ‘Crunch’ sweater (which is designed for children) and is a bottom up design with some fun little texture included. Directions to make this longer or shorter are included and the seams fall at the sides and the top of the shoulders. I would call this a beginner friendly pattern. In a sport weight yarn, it produces a nice, light sweater that can be worn on crisp fall days….not just the dead of winter.

Malabrigo Arroyo is hand dyed and will produce cool and interesting color changes without you even having to try. It’s also pure joy to work with. Highly recommend.
