Crescent Sky Shawl
Make your own beautiful hand knit shawl using my pattern which will give you easy to follow, step by step directions. To use this pattern you will have to know how to do basic knitting, (garter stitch) short row technique (very easy and described on pattern) and binding off.
Using this pattern and the materials required, you can make this exact shawl or many different varieties using other yarns or needles.
This shawl is worked with a simple garter stitch. Wedges are created using short rows, and each wedge comprises 9 “sawtooth” sections that have a lacy “lettuce” edge appearance. A Russian bind-off is used to create each “sawtooth” and to bind off the stitches which form each wedge.
Needles: 29-inch US 10.5 (6.50 mm) circular needles
Notions: one stitch marker, one tapestry needle
Gauge: 15 sts = 4” in garter stitch, after blocking (gauge is fairly open and loose)
Materials: 580 yds DK weight yarn
Finished measurements: The shawl pictured was knit with size 10 ½ needles and measured approximately 84 inches long (keeping in mind that it has a crescent shape) and about 16 inches wide at its widest point.
Sample Yarn: 2 skeins Queensland Collection Sunshine Coast, “Swan Island Aqua”
Gauge is really not important as you can use pretty much any yarn you like. Just choose a yarn and do a “test” swatch with different size needles to get the texture and weight you desire.
