Crevasse is a simple tube-based neckwarmer/cowl with minimal shaping. It’s knit in light fingering-weight yarn, making it a good project to show off a single skein, and it’s embellished with a lot of semi-functional buttons.

The buttons make the shaping, styling, and fit of the cowl adjustable, so the real shaping happens after most of the knitting is done.

Materials:
About 340-350 yards of Malabrigo Yarn Sock (colorway shown is Candombe) or a similar substitute.
1 16-24” circular needle in US3-4/3.25-3.5mm, or size needed for gauge
2 stitch markers
2 double-pointed needles (DPNs) in the same size used for gauge
8 3/4”/19mm buttons
Tapestry needle

Gauge:
Gauge is 22 sts and 34 rows over 4”/10cm of blocked stockinette in the round, for a fairly flexible fabric. Please be sure to check your gauge; unintentionally knitting this piece at a smaller gauge may make it too small to wear.

Measurements:
As shown, when buttoned, this cowl measures 10“/25cm across the narrow top, 11.75“/30cm across the wider end, and 13.75“/35cm tall. All measurements are flat; for a rough idea of the circumference, double them.
