Crisp Air Beanie
When I ordered the skein of bulky weight yarn from Harbor Fibres, I knew I wanted to make a textured bulky weight beanie. Since I couldn’t find a pattern for what I had in mind I decided to write one myself! It is inspired by those wonderful crisp air mornings of fall. This was my first design but is my second released pattern.
Gauge is given for the first 3 rounds of the pattern, so that you may check gauge without having to do a separate swatch. Some testers did have to decrease hook size to make gauge.
The pattern includes multiple measurements to track progress as you go, and notes are given on how to adjust pattern if needed to meet those measurements.
I have also included a hat sizing guide to help you get those perfect measurements without hunting for your ruler. The last page of the PDF includes (true to size) schematics to measure both your crown circle diameter and hat height.
Supplies:
- One skein (109 yards) of hand-dyed bulky weight yarn. I used Crisp Waves from Harbor Fibres. Other bulky weight yarns can be substituted, but gauge might change. Possibilities include: Red Heart Soft Essentials and I Love This Chunky.
- 10 mm hook and 8 mm hook (or hook needed to meet gauge with a hook one or two sizes smaller).
- Tapestry Needle
