My husband’s first car was a classic VW Beetle and now my eldest son has just bought his first car. Guess what! It’s a Beetle!
I like a challenge so I thought I’d have a go at crocheting a cushion cover based on the Beetle. I wanted to make it look a little more 3D and here is the end result. I hope you like it!
The cover is made in Super Chunky yarn on a 6mm hook. I used Wendy Serenity Super Chunky which has a great range of colours. I used a total of 8 balls of yarn (100g/87 metres per ball), 5.5 balls of the main colour plus 1 colour each for the windows and bumpers/trim. I used some oddments of double knitting yarn in red and orange for the rear lights and front indicators. You’ll also need a 16″ to 18″/40cm to 45cm cushion pad (depending how plump you like your cushions!) and a 12″/30cm zip.
The tension on a 6mm hook is 3 sts and 3 rows to 1″/2.5cm.
The finished cushion cover will be approximately 16″/40cm square.
The instructions include charts for the front and back pieces and step by step photos on how to assemble to cushion cover.
