This toy, crocheted with the specified yarn, is 23cm (9”) tall.
The crocodile has a plastic hamster ball inside his lower part. The upper part of the toy is attached to the lid of the ball, so you can lift the upper part and open the ball.
You can use the toy as “crocodile bank” if you make a coin slot in the ball using the method and tools described in the pattern.
You may need to modify the pattern to make your lower part fit your ball. This is not difficult: you need to add (remove) a few rounds of decreases and increases.
You also need to alter the ball, that is, make holes for sewing the crocheted part to the ball.
The hands have a wire frame inside, passing from the fingers, through the arms and neck, to the head.

In addition, you can use this pattern to make a regular stuffed toy, without a ball inside. This is a simpler version, you just need to exclude several stages of the work. How to do that is described in detail on the last page (as well a sailor cap pattern).

For the work you will need:

Yarn:

  • the main green yarn - acrylic 100% - 100g/300m - 3.53 oz/328 yd - about 100g
  • the thinner green yarn for the Hand (maybe a different shade, it doesn’t matter) - about 5 g
  • white yarn for the teeth and eyes - which is not thicker than your main green yarn - a little
  • black yarn for the nostrils and eyes - the same thickness as your main green yarn - a little
  • yellow yarn for the tummy spot - the same thickness as your main yarn - about 5-10 g
  • pink yarn for the tongue - a little

Hooks:
I used 3 different hooks for the work:

  • a small one = 1.75 mm - for the 1-7 rounds of the fingers (for the thinner green yarn)

  • a medium one = 3.0 mm - for the 8th round of the fingers and palm (for the thinner green yarn), for the lower 15 rounds of the arms (for the main yarn), for the toes (for the main yarn), nostrils on the upper jaw (black yarn), teeth (white yarn)

  • a large one = 3.5 mm - everything else crochet with the main green yarn

  • the plastic hamster ball (diameter = 10-12 cm / 4-5 ‘’)

  • filler of your choice

  • aluminium or copper wire of thickness 1.3 - 1.7 mm for the wire frame - about 1.5 m

  • 1 flat button

  • a piece of thick plastic for attaching the legs (I used a piece of plastic packaging)

  • strong sewing thread for attaching the legs

  • adhesive tape for connecting the wire

  • quick-drying glue

Tools:

  • tools for working with wire
  • a needle or thin knitting needle to alter the ball (which you do not mind spoiling: after heating and piercing of plastic, they are unsuitable for sewing/knitting)
  • yarn needle scissors, markers, pins, etc. as usual

The pattern consists of 35 pages and includes about 50 step-by-step photographs.
