This pattern was inspired by me standing in a blustery park one morning, watching my daughter take part in a cross country race. I really wanted something to keep me warm around my neck and keep out the drafts! I also wanted something that would look great.

The cowl is made with two strands of DK yarn, and the stitches result in a lovely chunky ribbed effect.

The top and bottom halves of the cowl are made in different colour combinations, but it can be worn either way up so you can choose which way to wear it depending on your mood or on the rest of your outfit!

It can either be worn “flat” or with the top rim turned over, which is how I like to wear it. Either way though, it looks great!

The finished cowl measures 15cm high (if the top rim is not turned over) by 60 cm around. It would fit an adult or older child.

The pattern is written using UK crochet terms but it includes a table for converting them to US terms (very simply!).

Crochet level: competent beginner.
