In researching I found a couple version of the stitch that is used to create. Two names of original stitch are Cross Openwork and Elongated openwork. The stitch can be found posted at various web sites or an awesome reference book is, “400 knitting stitches” by Potter Craft pg 221 is the Cross Openwork stitch. On page 223 is a variation called the Elongated Crossover Stitch. At the time of writing this the book was carried by Amazon.com
