Vista House is perched on Crown Point on the old Columbia River Gorge Highway east of Portland. It was dedicated in 1918 as a rest stop observatory for travelers and as a memorial tribute to the Oregon Pioneers that made their way down the Columbia River. http://vistahouse.com. The cowl which can be worn around the neck or over the head as a hood is constructed using a provisional cast on to knit a band of rib stitches resembling steps, then joined in the round and stitches are picked up along the edge to knit the body of cowl in an eight panel repeat to reflect the eight sides of the Vista House which is the inspiration for this pattern.

Yarn:
Schulana Donegal Tweed, (95% Wool, 5% Cashmere, 50g/95m/104yards/ball), 4 balls. Colorway shown is #4.

24” circumference of body, 34” circumference of lower ribbed band, 22” length

US 9 (5.5mm) 24” Circular Needle

Size H crochet hook and smooth waste yarn for provisional cast on.
