4 ply yarn for hat – The thickness of the 4-ply yarn can really affect the sizing of this hat. For example – a Red Heart super saver yarn will make a larger hat than a Bernat Satin – both 4 ply yarns. You can adjust a few ways for the different yarns. Eliminating a row in the hat, or the second row of fpdc/bpdc in the crown will help compensate for a thicker yarn – or using a smaller hook.

4 ply yarn for crown - I like to use a cotton sparkle yarn for the Crown (the cotton is a bit stiffer and holds the points of the crown up better – I use Bernat Handicrafter Holidays cotton) – a regular acrylic yarn will work as well – I use sparkle yarn to make it shine like a crown  On the newborn and maybe even the 3 to 6 month I used the Bernat Satin Sparkle … it makes for a smaller crown and it seems more in proportion to the smaller baby head.
