SIZE:

Wingspan: 73”/185 cm; Depth at center spine: 36”/91 cm; Sides: 53”/135 cm

MATERIALS:

Expression Fiber Arts Sincere Sock yarn

3 skeins in contrasting colors needed (3.5 oz/437 yds each)

Shown in colors: Blue Crystal Hues

The sample shown used 1180 yards (1079 m) total.

Due to the high contrast of the colors, it is strongly advised that you steam block your shawl to limit color bleed.

If those colors aren’t available, any from this category will work.

NEEDLES:

US size 5 (3.75 mm) 32” circular needle or any size that is appropriate to obtain gauge for your selected yarn. Refer to the yarn tag/label for the recommended needle sizes.

SKILL LEVEL:

Advanced - For the adventurous knitter who loves to tackle something a bit more complicated. This pattern is for those knitters who have experience working with lace, cables, mosaics, twisted stitches, and charts.

Notes from the Designer:

This design takes basic stitches and combines them in unique ways. This triangular shawl is a relaxing knit but has enough variety to keep you engaged and excited to reach the next section. You will use three colors to explore basic lace and then see a pattern unfold, as you add mosaic knitting with highlights using twisted stitches.

  • Click here to watch a tutorial showing you how to read a chart in a triangle shawl, and how to work a few rows of the Tranquility section.
  • Please carefully read through the pattern before starting your project.
  • This triangular shawl begins with a garter tab cast on and grows by 4 sts on each RS row.
  • Stitch patterns are charted only.
  • The Eyelet pattern (see chart on page 10) is repeated throughout as a transition between the Lace, Mosaic, and Twisted stitch patterns that are featured in the design.
  • The final edge is created using a contrasting color I-cord bind off.
  • Throughout the entire pattern on all WS rows, the stitches immediately before and after the center spine stitch should be worked as a purl stitch. The notation in all of the charts is correct for those single sts.
  • If using high-contrast colors as shown, steam blocking is strongly encouraged to avoid color transfer.
