CSM Universal Bonnet by Karen Taylor (Ramel)

CSM Universal Bonnet

Announcing the complete how-to of my innovative “Universal Split Ring Flat Cast-on Bonnet”.

If you prefer not to use split rings you can still create a universal bonnet and hang a row of reinforced fibre/spiderwire.

A Universal bonnet is an item worked flat on a circular sock knitting machine using the largest needle/slot number you own so that it can be used on ANY cylinder you choose thereafter to use.

Why this is awesome is that prior to this idea one had to create a bonnet for each cylinder one owned (and who just owns one of any basic tool?)

Check out the video for details on how to work flat on a CSM

Use yarn and machine tension which work on your machine. Work this item at least 13 inches as it hangs with weight on your machine.

The video shows all steps. https://youtu.be/Ii3NfRO_PKA

This project is aimed towards those comfortable with working on a csm (circular sock knitting machine) - the ribber is not needed for this project.

In the video I created for step-by-step instructions, this is reviewed:
-project beginning, middle and end,
-how to work flat weave on a CSM regardless of machine,
-how to no-sew-later by working yarn tails into work (as you go),
-how to plan out a hung hem edge,
-how to slightly raise a cylinder needle so it knits,
-fixing just dropped stitches, slip stitch edge or regular,
-intro to my two lights, pick tool, and my hemostat clamp.

The video took 90 minutes to initially record (with two attempts), a day to determine how to best transfer the three files from my iPhone 8+ to my computer and then to my iPad, and all day today to edit.
