Cthulhu Cowl
Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!
The great old one is sleeping. Good for us!
Cthulhu is described as a mixture of octopus, dragon and humanoid form and many horror stories, roleplaying systems, comics or movies meanwhile have adopted the myth.
Cowl, with the motif of Cthulhu!
You begin with a ribbed cuff. Then knit the mysterious pattern in fairisle technique with two contrasting colours in the round.
Including an Shoggoths inspired chart for the swatches, which work as wristwarmers!
Materials:
You need DK Yarn in two contrasting colours. Gauge of 22 stitches by 27 rounds (per 4”/10cm) for colour work in stockinette in the round after blocking.
You will need about 230m in main colour and 115m in contrasting colour. For the swatch you need another 50m in main colour and 25m in contrasting colour (per piece).
Size
Finished size of the cowl, when measured flat after blocking (width x height):
12.5’’/32cm x 9.5’’/24cm without ribbing or 14’’/36cm with ribbing.
Circumference of the cowl, when measured in the round after blocking: 25’’/64cm
Variation:
Using Sport weight yarn with a gauge of 24 stitches per 4’’/10cm, the cowl will be shorter and tighter, with a circumference of approximately 24’’/60cm. I advise against using yarn thinner than Sport, as the cowl is pulled over the head and the stranded pattern isn’t particularly stretchy.
Please do not use thicker yarn, otherwise the cowl will be very wide.
What else do you need?
A circular knitting needle in size US 3-6 / 3-4mm for the cuffs and another in US 3-7 / 3.25-4.25 for the colourwork, either 40’’-50’’/100-120cm for Magic Loop technique or 20’’/50cm with short(!) needle tips.
Round marker
3 repeat marker after 36, 72, 144 stitches (optional)
Tapestry needle and scissors
Instructions come with extra chart:
inverted colour scheme
Dt:
Wolle:
DKGarn in zwei kontrastierenden Farben,
Was brauchst Du noch?
Nadelspitzen.
Rundenmarkierer
optional: 3 Rapportmarkierer nach 36, 72 und 144 Maschen
Stumpfe Sticknadel zum Vernähen
Schere
