CuddleHug
CuddleHug is a reversible, snuggly, striped blanket knit in broken rib stitch that does not require blocking maintain its shape after washing. The inspiration for this pattern came when I was trying to find a simple baby blanket that would be easy care for gifts but would still be beautiful and comforting to the touch.
This pattern can very easily be adapted for any type or amount of yarn. The inspiration blanket was made with sock yarn for a lightweight snuggly feel, but almost instantly I designed a second with bulky yarn as a wedding gift to be used as a couch throw. Directions and pictures for the alternate are included in the pattern. Whatever type or amount of yarn you choose, it is easiest to use yarn amounts that can easily be divided in eighths by either weight or length if you use the original striping pattern.
Stripes are worked based on percentages of the yarn available, so you can simply adjust your project accordingly with relative ease. I chose a 3 color stripe pattern for the original. To duplicate you will need 1 skein each of 2 contrasting colors in Knit Picks Stroll Tonal and 2 skeins of a neutral shade in the same yarn. I only made only one small change on color scheme of the couch throw--substituting 2 colors in the same family for one of the contrast colors of the original pattern. To follow the throw pattern you will need 1 skein each of 2 colors in the same family of Knit Picks Billow, 2 skeins of a contrasting color, and 4 skeins of a neutral shade. Both striping schemes are described in the pattern. However, you could just as easily develop your own striping schematics as well!
Gauge is not important other than in determining how many stitches to cast on to create the dimensions that you want and making sure your fabric is not too tight or too loose--you can adapt the pattern based on your own gauge preference. (Gauge for my alternate version with the thick and thin bulky weight yarn was 12 stitches and 16 to 17 rows= 4 inches.)
