Cupples' Lace Leaf
I love leaves AND this pattern is so incredibly simple, I wish I could show you right here in the notes! There are 20 rows and a multiple of 25 stitches. 10 rows are “p across”. One right-side row is worked 5 times, then a slightly different right-side row is worked the same number of times. That’s the whole pattern!
Mrs. George (Anne Jane) Cupples published this pattern in her stocking knitter’s pamphlet in 1871 in Edinburgh, Scotland. I added a stitch on each edge of the leaf panel to better separate it from the eyelet columns. I added 3 stitches of garter stitch on each side just to stabilize my swatch; they are not included in this pattern. Feel free to add or not add side stitches to this pattern.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog, SSK and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
