Curly Gilet
This Curly Gilet vest is a soft escape from the urban hustle, and, frankly, it’s the main trend of the season! Looking at its voluminous, delicate texture, you can immediately picture yourself in a chalet somewhere, with a cup of cocoa and a view of the snow-capped peaks.
The garment is worked using bouclé yarn - it’s this yarn that gives the vest such a stylish, ‘wooly’ look. And the contrasting finish on the edges adds completeness and a touch of vintage charm.
A few words on bouclé: when knitting with bouclé, it can be difficult to clearly see every stitch and row, so use stitch markers to keep track of the number of rows and stitches worked. This is a yarn that forgives small imperfections but demands a love for volume and texture!
The knitting begins at the bottom. The back and both front panels are first worked flat as a single piece in stockinette stitch up to the armholes. After knitting the desired length, the piece is divided into the back and the front panels. The right front panel is worked first, then the back, and finally, the left front panel. After that, the front and back panels are seamed at the shoulder line. The final step is finishing the edges with the second yarn using a fold-over hem.
The vest features wide armholes, making it easy to layer over an oversized sweater or hoodie, which makes it an indispensable piece for a cozy, layered autumn/winter wardrobe.
