This knitting pattern (available from www.slightly-sheepish.com) is to make a Cushion Cover based on the VW Beetle / Bug and will fit a cushion pad approximately 40cm/16″ square. I’ve made the original in Wendy Serenity Super Chunky yarn (3 x 100g balls, 2 in your chosen body colour and 1 jet for windows and bumpers) which is knitted to a tension of 10 sts and 12 rows to 10cm/4 inches. Of course you can use any yarn you like as long as the tension is correct! I used 9mm needles (UK00, US 13). To finish the cushion you’ll also need a 40cm/16″ cushion pad, a 31cm/12″ zip and oddments of yarn in red, orange and white for the lights and indicators.
I’ve used Swiss Darning for the headlamps, rear lights and registration plate then added further details in back stitch and chain stitch.
The cover itself is knitted in stocking stitch (one row knit, one row purl) and the blocks of colour worked using the intarsia technique (plenty of YouTube videos on this!).
